Most of my tapestries are either mounted on linen covered frame or mounted on a bar.  Both methods are easy to install.  The fiber is exposed to the environment and free to breathe.  Care instructions usually include a light vacuum with a clean attachment every six months.  
 
If out of direct sunlight, your tapestry will stay lightfast for years, decades, and centuries.  However, perfect conditions mixed with aesthetic placement don't often match up.  
 
Whenever I have a commission in a public venue, I almost always frame the piece behind UV glass.   I use a local framer to create the perfect foundation to highlight the piece and meld with the tapestry.
